Introductory Patternmaking

Monday evening from 7pm to 9pm.

Class begins 3rd March 2008.

This introductory course into Patternmaking will enable the student to create basic to moderate designs suitable to their individual body shape.

Classes will be kept to maximum of 5 students with minimum of 3 students. These numbers will ensure that that all students get sufficient one on one contact with the tutor, while also learning from each other.

All work in class will be completed in 3rd scale patterns with each student receiving a block pattern of their size.

Each class will result in homework being set. This homework should be applied to full scale patterns and will enhance your retention of class content.

The course is 13 weeks long and will cover:

    1. Measure the body.
    2. Basic Skirts: Using a basic skirt block we will create some simple skirt designs.
      1. ‘A’line, with Waistband and with a facing
      2. Removing the waist darts
      3. Creating a yoke
      4. Circle skirts
    3. Bodices: Using a basic block
      1. Adjusting for a smaller and larger bust
      2. Moving the darts and creating some simple designs for blouse
      3. Creating designs for dresses
      4. Creating some designs brought in by the student
    4. Pants
      1. Simple pull on style
      2. With waistbands and facings
      3. With pockets, zips etc
      4. Different leg designs
      5. Shorts
